Friday 13th December

Happy Friday!

It has been another eventful week at school with four class performances, two nativity performances and two exhibitions.

On Monday, Year Six transported their audience through history with a performance depicting the experiences of children during World War Two. They explored themes such as rationing, evacuation, and air raid preparations, bringing the past to life through vivid storytelling.

On Tuesday, Year Five captivated their audience with impressive musical and dancing talents, taking everyone on a journey through the Tardis to explore life in the Victorian era. Their performance featured a delightful song, a lively rap, expressive poetry, and dynamic dancing, showcasing their remarkable creativity and skill.

Reception and Year 1 impressed us all with two brilliant performances of their Nativity, Prickly Hay. They delivered their lines confidently, sang beautifully, and remembered all their actions (with a little help from their school adults). As our youngest performers, it can be daunting to perform in front of an audience, but they did an incredible job. Thank you for your wonderful support with costumes. If you were able to attend, we hope you enjoyed the show as much as the children enjoyed performing it!

On Friday, Year Two held an exhibition to showcase their learning about the different continents. The children were thrilled to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with their families, making it a proud and memorable moment for everyone involved.

Yesterday, we held an afternoon tea for the people who have helped us this term. We are so lucky here at Olive Hill to have lots of lovely people who give up their time to enhance the children’s experience of education. We have our school governors, our reading volunteers, our parent volunteers, and, you may not know this, but many of our lunchtime supervisors volunteer to go on trips and visits and always enjoy staying for the children’s performances where they can. We were also joined by our crossing warden and school cleaner. Our Senior Child Leadership Team did a fantastic job of hosting, even helping to set everything up beforehand and, everyone was entertained by the school choir who sang with so much enthusiasm.

Looking ahead to next week, Wednesday is a very busy day! It is Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas Dinner Day, and Christmas Singing on the Playground for Y2 to Y6. On Thursday, we will have our Christmas Dress-Up Day and we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s outfits (please don’t buy anything special for this, we know how expensive this time of year can be, recycle something that has been worn before and remember a bit of tinsel can make most things Christmassy).

Have a wonderful weekend!
