Happy Friday!

We hope everyone has managed to keep warm during this cold weather. Lots of the children have come to school well prepared with their hat, scarf, gloves and a warm coat.

As you are aware, we were very sad to lose Margo (one of our school guinea pigs) just before Christmas. We appreciate how important to our school community guinea pigs are and we know the children have missed having them squeaking at them on the way to the office. This week has seen the arrival at school of two tiny 10-week-old guinea pigs. They are quite shy at the moment and have remained in their sleeping area for most of the past two days, but I am sure over the next few weeks their confidence will grow. In assembly today, Miss Walters set each class a task to come up with names for each guinea pig and the children will vote on a selection of names on Monday!

This week year three have had a fantastic start to their learning experience. They had an afternoon called ‘I’m a year three child get me out of here,’ and had to take part in a selection of trials to identify the key biomes they are learning about this term. There was definitely a buzz of excitement and quite a few messy hands!

Year six held their meeting for PGL on Tuesday after school. The adults (and children) were able to discover everything they needed to know about the trip. The children were keen to ask questions about who they would share a dorm with and how late they could stay up! I was particularly impressed with the timetable for the different activities, which included canoeing, zip wiring and something called a giant swing. By the end of the meeting, I was rather jealous that I cannot attend!

Thank you to all our families who supported us on census day. We had lots of children come through for school dinners. There was great anticipation as the children looked for a winning sticker on their box.

We often remind parents of the importance of parking and driving safely, especially in the vicinity of the school. We cannot express strongly enough the danger of irresponsible parking and driving - we have seen people putting the lives of our children at risk. You must not park on the zig zags, and please avoid making U-turns in the road. Additionally, as pedestrians, please carefully consider where you are crossing the road.

We also wanted to make you aware that measles cases are rapidly rising across the West Midlands. The MMR vaccines are part of your routine vaccinations that you should have received as an infant. If you are unsure of your vaccination status for either yourself or your child, please contact your GP.
