Friday 13th September
Happy Friday!
We have completed our first full week at Olive Hill, and it has certainly been a busy one. It has been lovely to see the children being so engaged in their learning and enjoying playing together outside (even if the weather did try and keep us indoors a few times).
Monday started with lots of exciting English lessons, where the children developed a better understanding of their new texts. Year one went on a hunt for clues around the school and year two investigated what it was like to live inside a tent.
On Tuesday, year four were very excited to start their swimming lessons. They were amazed by the huge size of the swimming pool and although some were a little nervous to begin with, they all enjoyed familiarising themselves with the water and the floatation supports.
On Thursday afternoon, the year six staff held a short meeting for parents and carers, who will shortly be making their choices regarding secondary schools. We really appreciate what an apprehensive time this can be for our families and we will support where we can.
On Friday, years two, three and four were treated to a gymnastic session from two people from Sandwell aquatics centre. The children were asked to complete a variety of gymnastic skills including squat jumps and forward rolls. All the children who took part, were given a certificate, which included a free diving experience.
The return to school has understandably seen an increase in the amount of traffic on the surrounding roads. Please be considerate of where you are parking, we have many residents including elderly residents, who need access to their driveways. We have also observed cars parking on the pavement, leaving very little room for people to pass and forcing families with young children onto the road. Please leave enough time at the beginning and end of the day to find somewhere safe and considerate to park, even if it means walking a little bit further.
Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
