Friday 20th September
Happy Friday!
The weeks are really starting to fly by now! As of today, all of our new nursery starters have joined us in school and we are so pleased to be able to see them settling into their new routines and particularly enjoying playing in our nursery outside area.
Yesterday during our assembly, those children in year 6 interested in becoming prefects gave their speeches in front of the whole school. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and speak in front of such an audience and we are immensely proud of each and every one of them. The rest of the school has voted for who they would like to be their prefects and vice prefects and the results will be announced next week.
Here are a few extracts from their speeches today:
‘I would be honoured to represent Olive Hill and I would make sure the school is a happy and safe environment.’
‘I really want to inspire the younger children to become responsible, kind and able to help others during hard times.’
‘I believe I have the qualities of a good leader as I am confident, helpful, knowledgeable and kind.’
‘In order to fulfil this role, I think a prefect should be ready, respectful and safe.’
The rest of the school now have the important job of voting for who they would like to be their prefect and results will be announced next week!
Today you will have received a letter all about parents evening outlining how you can book your appointment through our online system SchoolCloud. At Olive Hill, we view the partnership between school and home as a vital element of your child’s development and we look forward to you being able to see all your child’s fantastic learning.
The parents’ evening will take place on the days listed below between 3.30pm – 6.10pm:
Tuesday 8th October – Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2
Wednesday 9th October – Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Wednesday 16th October – Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2
Thursday 17th October – Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Since we have both a morning and afternoon nursery, Mrs Waters will be offering appointments between 9:30 – 11:00 and 1:00 – 3:00 on Tuesday 8th October as well as the two evening appointments.
Another letter you will have received this week was about our Time Table Rock Stars day where, on the 11th October, your child can come dressed as a rock star to relaunch TTRS (Time Table Rock Stars) and highlight the importance of the children learning their time tables. The children (and staff) have been discussing their outfits already this week and we can’t wait to see them!
We know as the colder weather arrives so does cold and flu season. We understand that children do have occasions where they are poorly. However, high levels of attendance are a learned behaviour, and for children of primary school age it is important that this is role modelled to them on a daily basis. For all adults surrounding the child, it is important that we recognise the importance of developing excellent patterns of attendance from the moment they start school (this includes children of non-compulsory school age, for example nursery). Helping to create a pattern of regular attendance is everybody’s responsibility - parents, children and all members of school staff. We recognise the connection between attendance, attainment, safeguarding and wellbeing and therefore ask that you do ensure your child is in school as much as possible.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.
